Delightful apple fritters made with sourdough discard, offering a cozy flavor perfect for fall.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough discard, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Whisk together the egg and milk in another bowl.
  3. Mix the wet mixture with the dry ingredients and gently fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove fritters from the oil and let drain on paper towels.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving.

Notes

Leftover fritters can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat them in a toaster oven for best texture.
