- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch pan.
- Combine the cake mix, cocoa powder, eggs, oil, and water in a large bowl. Mix until smooth and velvety.
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes. The cake should appear set but still a bit soft to the touch.
- Beat together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool slightly for about 10 minutes.
- Pour the cream cheese mixture over the warm cake, letting it soak into the cracks.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, then pour the milk evenly over everything.
- Return to the oven for an additional 15 minutes.
- Let it cool before serving.
Notes
For a peanut butter swirl, add dollops of creamy peanut butter to the cream cheese mixture. For a minty twist, add 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
