Description

A comforting Alabama BBQ chicken sandwich featuring crispy chicken tenders, fresh veggies, and a creamy white BBQ sauce, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 68 crispy fried chicken tenders
  • 3 cups chopped romaine lettuce
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles plus a few splashes of brine
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 4 hoagie rolls (soft sesame hoagies preferred)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (for toasting rolls)
  • 1 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons creamy horseradish
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or less)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Whisk together all Alabama white BBQ sauce ingredients in a medium bowl until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  2. Warm the crispy chicken tenders in the oven or an air fryer until hot and crispy.
  3. Split the hoagie rolls and toast them with butter until golden and crisp.
  4. Layer the chopped romaine lettuce, dill pickles, red onion, and warm chicken on a cutting board.
  5. Chop everything together until a chopped-salad texture forms.
  6. Drizzle your prepared BBQ sauce over the mixture, chopping and folding until creamy and well-coated.
  7. Stuff the chopped mixture into toasted hoagie rolls.
  8. Serve immediately with an extra drizzle of sauce.

Notes

Make-Ahead: Prepare BBQ sauce a day in advance for better flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
