Description

A comforting dessert combining the flavors of dense banana bread and fudgy brownies, topped with rich brown butter frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1¾ cups ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ½ cup butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 Tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease and flour a 15×10″ pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs until creamy and well combined.
  3. Mix in the mashed ripe bananas and vanilla extract until everything is blended nicely.
  4. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt to the mixture, and stir until there are no dry ingredients left. Gently fold in the chopped walnuts if using.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the brownies are baking, prepare the brown butter frosting. Melt the butter over medium heat until it turns golden brown, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
  7. Stir in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  8. Once the brownies are out of the oven, spread the warm frosting evenly over the top. Let cool, then slice into squares and enjoy!

Notes

These brownies can be made a day in advance for enhanced flavor. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
